I am finally sitting down to share some new items from a workshop that I recently attended. Style Appropriate tone, distinctive voice; pleasing variety in sentence structure; Vivid diction, precise word choices. Interesting, original topic sentence, reflecting thought and insight; focused on one interesting main idea.
No discernible pattern of organization; Unrelated details; no transitions. Sufficient number of examples and details that relate to the topic. We were however given some resources.
Insufficient, vague, or undeveloped examples.
Appropriate tone; Clear sentences with varied structures; Effective diction. We looked at several online resources, but the following had great rubrics for their school districts. You can never have too many resources, right? One of the biggest challenges at my school was the writing component of Common Core.
Our district has not adopted a writing curriculum and we have no updated materials or Common Core rubrics.

What we were using before was so general that I feel like these make it much more clear and easy to break down each part of the writing. Organization and Transitions Thoughtful, logical progression of supporting examples; Mature transitions between ideas.
These are definitely not "Kid Friendly" but it is a place to start to really see how my kids are doing in their writing and what I need to work on teaching. I have a feeling many of you are in the same boat. I would love to hear your thoughts on these.
There are not that many standards, but sometimes we interpret them so differently. Acceptable arrangement of examples; transitions may be weak.
Using these sites as a guideline we sat down and got to work on our own. Details are arranged in a logical progression; appropriate transitions. Are they similar or completely different?
